Introduction

Located at the foot of the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Petrosains Science Centre devotes itself to a STEM learning catalyst, meant to inspire future talents through immersive and imaginative experiences. The center's aspiration is to be a global institution that inspires people and enriches their lives through the delivery of customer-centric experiences and impactful learning.

Foraminifera and the Evolution of Oil & Gas
Foraminifera have many uses in petroleum exploration and are used to routinely interpret the ages and paleoenvironments of sedimentary strata in oil wells.
The Requirements

The Design Foundation is thrilled to have been a part of the Devonian exhibits at Petrosains. Our design team worked closely with the museum to create an immersive educational experience examining Earth's evolution through the Devonian period up to the time of dinosaurs.

The Design Foundation designed and produced several interactives for the gallery. They include: an interactive presenting global continental drift over millenia, various ocean animals during the Cambrian Period, how prehistoric animals become fossils, and how those fossils become the repository for the fuel we use today.

The Response
The Result

We are proud to have contributed to the creation of such an informative and engaging exhibit. On display for five years in the largest hall the center has to offer, we strive to produce designs that educate and inspire. The exhibit was a huge success, with international visitors, local guests and school groups.

Continental Drift
Continental drift, is described as large scale horizontal movements of continents relative to one another and to the ocean basins during one or more of the episodes of geologic time. This concept was an important precursor to the development of the theory of plate tectonics, which incorporates it.
