The Black Loyalist Heritage Centre tells the story of the world's largest free African population outside of Africa, in the late 18th century in Nova Scotia. Birchtown Bay commemorates all Black Loyalist communities in Nova Scotia. The Centre's Gallery allows visitors to be immersed in multimedia presentations of the Black Loyalist journey from Africa to the American colonies, then Nova Scotia and back to Africa.
The Design Foundation designed and produced an interactive which allows visitors to discover the African experience through the craft of quilting, by examining quilt artefacts, and are given the opportunity to build a digital quilt which is then displayed on a larger monitor in the gallery.
